The Graham Local Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Friday, October 31, at Graham High School to discuss the next steps following the county budget commission’s recent decision to deny a unvoted permanent improvement levy.
According to an email sent to the media Thursday evening, the meeting will include a public hearing and an executive session, followed by a vote on a resolution authorizing an expedited appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court.
The executive session will allow the board to consult with its attorney regarding disputes related to pending or imminent court action.
While the agenda lists the meeting start time as 6:45 p.m., an attached document indicates the public hearing begins at 5:30 p.m. Residents with questions about the time can contact the district office at 937-663-4123.
Earlier this week, the Champaign and Shelby County Budget Commissions voted 3–0 to reject Graham’s request to reclassify five mills from its general fund to permanent improvement millage, a move that would have resulted in an unvoted property tax increase.
If approved, the change would have added to a county-wide property revaluation already expected to raise residential appraised values by about 38%, according to the county auditor.
Commission members said the board acted after key fiscal and tax year deadlines had passed, making the submission invalid.
