Early Wednesday evening, officers from the Russells Point Police Department were called to a report of reckless driving.

A red Ford pickup truck was speeding westbound on US 33 from State Route 274 and having trouble staying in its lane.

Officers quickly found the truck on US 33 near Lincoln Boulevard and saw the same driving behavior.

They pulled the vehicle over.

When speaking with the driver, 46-year-old Jarrett Griggs from Huntsville, officers noticed a strong smell of alcoholic beverages.

Griggs admitted to drinking, and officers asked him to step out of the vehicle to do field sobriety tests.

As he got out, Griggs told officers he had a loaded handgun under his jacket in a holster.

Officers safely removed the gun and two loaded magazines.

Griggs failed the sobriety tests, and officers determined he was not fit to drive.

They also found several open containers of alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle.

Griggs was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI) and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle then lodged in the Logan County Jail.
