A Springfield man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash that happened more than a year ago in Logan County.
On Monday, Marcus Hagans, 38, of Springfield, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide for his role in a June 2024 crash that claimed the life of a Bellefontaine woman.
According to authorities, Hagans was stopped in Bellefontaine and successfully arrested without incident.
The crash occurred early on the morning of Monday, June 17, 2024, on County Road 29.
Hagans was driving a Polaris Slingshot when he failed to negotiate a curve, went off the right side of the roadway into a tree line, and overturned the vehicle, which came to rest on its top.
Hagans and his passenger, Brittnie Whetsel, 32, of Bellefontaine, were both transported to Mary Rutan Hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Whetsel tragically died from her injuries the following day.
Deputies reported at the time that Hagans was possibly under the influence of medications, drugs, or alcohol.
Following a lengthy investigation, Hagans is being held pending further court proceedings.
The case remains under investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
A court date is pending.
