Dr. Bryan Hambley, a physician and community advocate, announced his candidacy for Ohio Secretary of State in January and made a stop in Bellefontaine Thursday night.
Hambley, who specializes in leukemia care, is entering the race with a focus on election integrity, civic engagement, and government transparency.
He was raised on a small family farm in rural Ohio.
Hambley has also been involved in advocacy efforts to improve healthcare access and has worked to raise awareness around issues such as high medical costs, rural hospital closures, and insurance denials.
In 2024, Hambley helped organize healthcare professionals across the state in response to concerns over ballot language and district maps.
He also engaged in door-to-door voter outreach focused on civic education and redistricting.
“The decisions made in Columbus affect the lives of patients, families, and communities across Ohio,” Hambley said in a campaign statement. “That’s why I believe it’s important to ensure our democratic systems are fair, accessible, and accountable.”
As part of his campaign efforts, Hambley has been visiting communities across the state.
On Thursday night, he stopped in Bellefontaine to speak with local Democrats, discussing his priorities and answering questions from attendees.
The small group sat with Hambley at a round-table style event.
Ohio Treasurer, republican Robert Sprague, has also thrown his hat in the ring for Secretary of State.
It’s also rumored that Theresa Gavorone may run for the position.
The Ohio Secretary of State serves as the state’s chief elections officer and oversees business services and various administrative functions.
The office has drawn increased attention in recent years due to debates over voting access and redistricting.
The general election will be held in November 2026.
