Early Friday morning, a 21-year-old man was arrested after a traffic stop on U.S. Route 33 just outside of Huntsville.
Miles Harte, of East Liberty, the driver of a gray Honda Civic, was pulled over for speeding.
His vehicle was clocked going 71 miles per hour in the 55 mph zone.
When Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies approached the car, they immediately noticed a strong smell of marijuana.
Harte admitted that he had recently smoked marijuana at a friend’s house and initially denied there were any drugs inside the vehicle, but later admitted there was marijuana inside.
During a search, deputies found a bottle of THC products and marijuana-related items in Harte’s pocket.
A further search of the car led to large amounts of marijuana and THC products, including gummies, pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, and THC cartridges.
They also found a large amount of cash and two cell phones.
The items seized included:
- Over 600 grams of marijuana
- Multiple packages of THC edibles and cartridges
- Psilocybin mushroom chocolate bars
Harte was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail for possession of illegal drugs.
Authorities are also looking into whether he was involved in drug trafficking because the amount of drugs and cash suggests the possibility.
Additional charges are pending.
The car was towed for further investigation.
