Farmers across Logan and Champaign Counties are making steady progress this harvest season.
Many in Logan County have wrapped up their soybean harvest, reporting yields ranging from 26 to 58 bushels per acre, with most fields averaging around 60 bushels per acre.
Corn harvest is now underway across both counties.
Early results show April-planted corn producing 170 to 190 bushels per acre, while other fields are seeing closer to 160 bushels per acre.
With plenty of acres still left to go, local producers say those numbers could change as harvest continues.
In Champaign County, farmer Todd Woodruff says his operation is running a little behind schedule but that he’s thankful for the beautiful fall weather that’s helping keep things moving:
Farmers in both counties say that, in addition to drought conditions, deer and other wildlife are causing significant crop damage, which is impacting overall yields this season.
Drivers are reminded to share the road with farm machinery and use extra caution during this busy harvest season.
