Older Ohioans who need help paying their heating bills may qualify for assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Bridges Community Action Partnership are reminding residents that HEAP provides financial assistance to eligible households to help manage home heating costs.

The program is available to households earning at or below 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for households with up to seven members.

Households with eight or more members must meet the income limit of 60 percent of the State Median Income.

Eligible benefits are applied directly to a customer’s utility or bulk fuel bill.

Older adults can visit their local Area Agency on Aging for help gathering the required documents and completing an application.

Applications can also be submitted online or downloaded at energyhelp.ohio.gov.

Applicants will need copies of their most recent utility bills, a list of everyone living in the household with birth dates and Social Security numbers, and proof of income for all household members.

Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency is also required, along with proof of disability when applicable.

Applications must be received by May 31, 2027.
