A speeding drunk driver was arrested early Sunday morning just after one o’clock.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on County Road 130, in the area of County Road 57.

Authorities clocked the driver, Beau Hefner, 25, of Wapakoneta, at 82 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

A traffic stop was initiated.

As deputies spoke with Hefner, they could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Hefner’s speech was also slurred and his eyes were bloodshot.

Hefner was asked to exit his vehicle and walk towards the patrol car. Authorities noticed he was unsteady on his feet.

He was asked how much he had to drink and Hefner initially told deputies he did not have anything to drink, then immediately changed his response to a few beers.

Hefner went on to explain he had two or three 12-ounce Coors Lite within an hour to an hour and a half.

He told deputies he went to pick up friends from Froggy’s at the Lake and was taking them to Bellefontaine and then he was going to Marysville/Milford Center.

Hefner submitted to field sobriety tests and failed.

He was placed under arrest for OVI and transported to the Logan County Jail.

At the jail, Hefner refused to submit a breath test.

He was placed under administrative license suspension (ALS) and issued citations for speed and OVI.

Hefner was released to a sober driver.
