Ohio Hi-Point Career Center is launching a new one-year Fire Level 1 program for incoming high school seniors, offering hands-on training and a direct pathway into careers in emergency services.
The 156-hour program introduces students to core firefighting skills, including fire suppression, search and rescue, hazardous materials response, and emergency vehicle operation. Students will gain hands-on experience using ladders, power tools, firefighting equipment, and fire trucks, while also learning how fires behave in structures and how to respond safely and effectively.
The program meets the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications and is offered through a partnership with Clark State College. Students who successfully complete Fire Level 1 will be eligible to continue into Clark State’s Fire Level 2 training program, creating a seamless transition to further certification and education.
“We’ve seen and heard the demand for a fire program,” said Ohio Hi-Point Superintendent Brad Richardson. “This partnership with Clark State gives students the skills needed to meet industry demand and opens multiple pathways, from volunteer service to full-time careers.”
Students can earn industry-recognized credentials, including the Hazardous Materials Operations Level Certificate and Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) certification.
Enrollment is open to incoming seniors who are at least 17 years old, providing a one-year career-focused option for students seeking high-demand workforce opportunities with room for continued education.
