Hi-Point Toastmasters members Jon Watkins and Kevin Greenwald captured first-place awards at the club’s speech contest this week.

Watkins won the Humorous Speech category with “The Longest Walk I Ever Walked,” while Greenwald earned top honors in the International Speech category with “Best Friends.”

The club-level contest is part of Toastmasters International’s program, designed to help members develop public speaking and leadership skills.

The duo will advance to the Area Speech Contest in February in Vandalia, competing against speakers from other local clubs for a chance to move on to division and district competitions.

Toastmasters contests not only challenge participants to refine their speaking skills but also foster a supportive community where members provide constructive feedback and encouragement.

Toastmasters offers members opportunities to practice public speaking, take on leadership roles, and communicate with confidence.

The organization emphasizes growth through constructive feedback and connection with a global network of more than 260,000 members across 13,800 clubs.

Hi-Point Toastmasters has around 20 members and meets every two weeks at noon on Tuesdays at the First Christian Church.

The next meeting is set for February 10 at noon.
