The Ohio State Highway Patrol had a busy weekend responding to hundreds of incidents across the state as winter weather and hazardous road conditions created challenges for motorists.
According to the Patrol, troopers handled 304 property damage crashes, along with 23 injury crashes and one fatal crash over the weekend. In addition to crash response, troopers assisted 1,090 disabled vehicles, helping drivers who became stranded due to weather-related issues, mechanical failures, or accidents.
The Patrol also completed four blood relay assists, a critical service that helps transport blood and medical supplies quickly to hospitals when time-sensitive needs arise.
Officials say the numbers highlight the impact of winter conditions on Ohio roadways and the importance of safe driving during severe weather. Troopers remind motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel when conditions are poor.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly prepared for winter travel, including checking tires, batteries, and fuel levels, and to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles when traveling during cold or snowy conditions.
Motorists are also urged to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles on the roadside, as required by Ohio law, to help keep first responders and stranded drivers safe.
