As the holiday season peaks, millions of Americans are braving crowded airports and highways to reach their destinations.

AAA predicts that 119 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home, marking an increase of 3 million compared to last year.

The majority of travelers—approximately 107 million—are expected to take to the roads, while a record 7.9 million will opt for air travel despite higher airfare prices.

This year, airfares have risen by an average of 4%, but that has not deterred travelers eager to reach their loved ones.

Sunday night, Caitlin Blazso was navigating the hustle of holiday travel, making her way from Columbus to Las Vegas. “It has been hectic. All the planes are super full. Everybody has got their luggage to the max, but other than that, it has been pretty good,” Blazso shared, reflecting the busy air travel scene.

This surge in travel is attributed to continued consumer spending as inflation slows, with AAA stating that Americans are increasingly willing to spend on travel despite higher costs.

For those flying, AAA recommends arriving at least two hours before departure to account for long lines and potential delays.

The busiest travel days are expected to be the weekend before and after Christmas, as travelers rush to get to their destinations and return home.

With the holiday travel rush in full swing, many are eager to spend time with family and friends, making the most of the season despite the challenges of packed airports and busy highways.
