UPDATED: House fire on Oakwood Drive in Bellefontaine

UPDATE:

Monday morning, a house fire on Oakwood Drive in Bellefontaine resulted in injuries to two firefighters and the complete loss of the residence, according to Bellefontaine Fire Chief Brian Wilson.

The fire is believed to have started on the home’s back patio.

While working to contain the blaze, two firefighters were injured when drywall from the ceiling collapsed on them.

Both were transported to Mary Rutan Hospital; one was later transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for treatment of burn injuries, then later released.

The homeowner was inside at the time but was safely alerted to the fire by neighbors and was able to evacuate.

Two dogs were also rescued from the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bellefontaine Fire Department.


Emergency crews were dispatched to a residential fire early Monday morning at 616 Oakwood Drive, just before 9 a.m., prompting a multi-agency response.

Firefighters from Huntsville, Bellefontaine, Tri-Valley, and West Liberty departments quickly arrived on the scene to combat the flames.

The property is owned by Patricia Forsythe.

Authorities have not yet released information regarding the cause of the fire.

An investigation is expected to begin once the scene is safe.
