Monty S. Jeanneret, 30, of 5228 County Road 39, Huntsville, was sentenced to 14 to 18 years in prison by Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Kevin Braig Tuesday.

Jeanneret was sentenced for his role in four fentanyl overdoses in Logan County, that happened within hours of each other, including the death of a 40-year-old Russells Point man.

He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, as well as two counts of corrupting another with drugs and one count of complicity to corrupting another with drugs on April 6, 2023, in Logan County Common Pleas Court.

On May 22, 2022, four overdoses were reported within hours of each other.

Russells Point Police and Indian Lake EMS went to Aiken Street at 3:15 p.m. where they found a 41-year-old male who was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Less than 15 minutes later they were sent to Madison Avenue where they discovered a 40-year-old who was not breathing.  Attempts were made to revive him but were unsuccessful.

That same date, at 4:23, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene of a vehicle crash near the Mary Rutan Urgent Care involving a 28-year-old DeGraff man.  He was traveling with his 6-year-old child when he went off the road on 33 and came to rest in a ditch near the Urgent Care Center.  He wrecked because of a suspected overdose.

That evening, deputies responded to Harrison Street in Lakeview for another overdose for a 52-year-old male.

The three survivors all believed they were taking cocaine.  Blood tests showed the presence of fentanyl.

Police were able to establish Jeanneret as the person who sold the cocaine.

The Drug Task Force executed a search warrant for Jeanneret’s home the same evening, but he fled to Georgia.

U.S. Marshals captured Jeanneret on August 17, in the Atlanta area.  He was extradited back to Ohio in November.

“Tragically, many overdose victims have no idea they are ingesting deadly fentanyl until it’s too late,” said Eric C. Stewart, Logan County Prosecuting Attorney.  “Fentanyl is highly addictive, and drug traffickers are increasingly mixing it with other illicit drugs in an effort to drive addiction and attract repeat buyers.”  Russells Point Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office should be commended for their quick work in solving the case and stopping further overdoses.
