Ice and curves combine in series of crashes

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies handled three accidents on Monday related to icy/wet road conditions.

Just after 3:00 PM, 19-year-old Taihler Crawford of Belle Center was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Cruze east on County Road 29 when she lost control on an ice patch and slid into a guardrail.

Crawford was not injured and was issued a citation for failure to control.

Her vehicle sustained minor damage.

At 3:45 PM, 19-year-old Noah Taylor, of Lima, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on State Route 235 near County Road 52 when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole.

Taylor was not injured but was issued a failure to control citation.

His vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

Lastly, shortly before 5:00 PM, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Township Road 179 and County Road 10.

Todd Kindle, 56, of West Liberty, was stopped at the intersection in his 2017 Honda Civic when 79-year-old James Hoffman of Bellefontaine, driving a 2011 Ford Fusion, skidded on ice and rear-ended Kindle.

Kindle was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital with possible injuries by Tri-Valley EMS.

Hoffman was issued a citation for assured clear distance ahead, and both vehicles sustained minor damage, with Kindle’s vehicle towed from the scene.
