Bellefontaine Police say a 31-year-old man was arrested Monday after officers discovered a stolen license plate on a van in the Lowe’s parking lot.

Police stopped the gray Ford van shortly before 1:00 PM and identified the driver as Willy Bueno.

He provided an International Driver’s License and a U.S. Employment Authorization ID, and a translator was needed to communicate with him.

Police say the license plate had been reported stolen to Powell Police on September 3, after the original owner started receiving out-of-state toll violations.

Bueno told officers he and his wife had recently bought the van, but admitted the title and plates had not been properly transferred.

Investigators later determined Bueno is not legally in the U.S. and placed him under an ICE hold.

He was taken to the Logan County Jail on a charge of receiving stolen property.
