An Illinois man was arrested on a felony drug charge after he was caught speeding on Route 33 Saturday afternoon around 3:30.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed Devonald Manney, 28, of Chicago, traveling at a high rate of speed on 33 near State Route 540.
Deputies clocked Manney traveling at 90 mph.
A traffic stop was initiated just west of the Route 68 overpass.
Manney told authorities he was coming from Columbus. He also stated he was on a week-long road trip.
While speaking with Manney, he appeared to be excessively nervous and would not make eye contact.
He was requested to exit his vehicle. Manney gave authorities his information but asked why he needed to get out of the vehicle. Manney then requested to speak with a supervisor and continued to not follow orders. He then called 911 and spoke with a Logan County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher, who talked Manney into exiting the vehicle.
K9 Thor was deployed for an exterior free air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics.
A probable cause search was conducted.
Deputies searched a book bag that was found on the passenger side floorboard which contained two clear plastic containers with a crystal-like substance.
In a jacket on the passenger seat, a glass methamphetamine pipe with meth residue was found, along with a silicone container with approximately 6-8 grams of suspected meth.
Manney was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Authorities conducted two separate MOBILEDETECT tests on the suspected methamphetamine and both tests resulted positive.
Manney was lodged on possession of methamphetamine.
Additional charges of speed and obstructing official business were sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.
