Brian Lowe, 53, of Raymond, was arrested Friday evening after leading Bellefontaine police on a slow-speed pursuit.
He is facing charges of failure to comply and operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI).
The incident started around East Lake Avenue and Michigan Street, where an officer saw a black Ford sedan veering into the parking lane before correcting.
The driver continued eastbound, turning north onto Ludlow Road and then east on Brennan Road, where the vehicle struggled to stay in its lane.
Officers tried to pull over the car, but the driver didn’t stop for lights and sirens.
Instead, the vehicle ran a stop sign at Township Road 179, turned north, and then headed east on County Road 10 before finally stopping in the 2000 block.
Lowe was in the driver’s seat and initially refused to follow commands from law enforcement.
After several warnings, he slowly got out but appeared sluggish and unsteady.
He was eventually taken into custody after awkwardly walking backward toward officers.
Police noticed Lowe showed several other signs of impairment.
He refused to say how much he had been drinking, wouldn’t perform field sobriety tests, and declined a breath test.
Lowe told officers he hadn’t seen the cruiser’s lights or heard the siren because he was on the phone and “wasn’t paying attention.”
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
