As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the Indian Lake High School (ILHS) FFA chapter has successfully raised a flock of turkeys, now ready to make their way to dinner tables across the community.

A total of 50 turkeys were raised by ILHS seniors Meya Karbowiak and Justin Zimmerman in the FFA barn on campus this fall.

The birds were processed last week, and the pair plans to deliver 25 of them to food banks and families in need later this week.

On Tuesday, several community members who had purchased a turkey picked up their birds just in time for the holiday.

The turkeys, which were raised with care by Karbowiak and Zimmerman, are now available for purchase by those looking for a local, farm-raised option for their Thanksgiving feast.

“We are really proud of the work Meya and Justin have put into this project,” said Mrs. Kelsey King, FFA advisor.

“It’s a great example of how our students are learning valuable agricultural skills while giving back to the community.”

The turkeys are priced at $3.50 per pound, with most birds weighing between 16-19 pounds.

A few turkeys remain available for purchase, and anyone interested in buying one is encouraged to contact Mrs. Kelsey King at ILHS.

All proceeds from the turkey sales will go toward supporting Karbowiak and Zimmerman’s efforts to earn a State FFA Degree, a prestigious honor that requires dedication and hard work within the FFA program.

The deadline for purchasing a turkey is fast approaching, so don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a locally-raised bird this Thanksgiving.
