Indian Lake High School recently held a ceremony to honor one of the district’s original leaders, former Superintendent Robert “Bob” Henry.
Family, friends, and former colleagues gathered at the school to unveil a memorial plaque in his memory, placed outside the current Guidance Office—a room that once served as the Superintendent’s Office during Henry’s tenure.
Henry served as the Superintendent of the Indian Lake School District from 1968 to 1982, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
His leadership was instrumental in overseeing the construction and opening of Indian Lake High School in 1969.
He also played a prominent role in the school’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2019.
After his time at Indian Lake, Henry went on to serve as Superintendent of the Shadyside School District for many years.
He passed away in 2023 at the age of 86.
Dave Corwin, a longtime guidance counselor and administrator at Indian Lake, shared personal reflections on his time working with Henry.
Corwin, who had been a student under Henry at Buckeye Local School, spoke fondly of his mentor, noting that Henry had served as an Algebra teacher, principal, and superintendent.
Later, Henry hired Corwin as an educator at Indian Lake, solidifying their long-standing professional relationship.
The plaque honoring Robert Henry carries a touching inscription chosen by his daughter, Tammy Mansfield: “The impact you had was immeasurable; the lives you touched, uncountable.”
Mansfield played a pivotal role in organizing the ceremony, bringing together more than 35 family members to celebrate Henry’s legacy.
Among those present were his wife, Lauretta, along with their surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom were moved by the tribute.
