Get ready for a night of laughs and timeless tunes as the Indian Lake High School cast and crew presents Nice Work If You Can Get It!

The production will be held in the Wilma Jacobs Performing Arts Auditorium on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm.

Directed by Indian Lake Vocal Music Teacher Tracey Notestine, the show is a screwball comedy set during the Prohibition era, featuring a clash between elegant socialites and rowdy bootleggers.

Notestine talks about the show:

The musical is set to the classic songs of George and Ira Gershwin, including hits like “Fascinating Rhythm,” “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “Sweet and Low Down,” “Delishious,” and of course, the title track.

The cast joined Ken Keller on the Morning Show on Friday:

The musical features a talented ensemble, with seniors Daniel Wahl (Jimmy Winter), Adeline Robinson (Billie Bendix), Jayden Martin (Cookie McGee), Calvin Knief (Chief Berry), Cambria Tuttle (Jeannie Muldoon), and Kayden Taylor (Max). Juniors Riley Ross (Eileen Evergreen), Alyssa Powell (Duchess Estonia Dulworth), and Makenna Hurley (Milicent Winter) also take center stage, along with sophomore Crew McPherson (Duke Mahoney).

Tickets for the show are still available online HERE.

This weekend also marks a bittersweet moment for the Indian Lake High School Music Department as they celebrate the conclusion of a remarkable musical legacy.

For 21 consecutive years, the Wahl family has been a consistent presence in the school’s musicals, and with Daniel Wahl’s final performance, an era comes to a close.

Mark and Michelle Wahl, residents of rural Huntsville, have seen all eight of their children participate in at least one musical at Indian Lake High School.

With Daniel now a senior, their legacy spans more than two decades, leaving an indelible mark on the school’s performing arts community.

“We’ve enjoyed every minute of it!” says Michelle Wahl, reflecting on the years of performances and support. Her children, including Daniel, have graced the stage, each contributing to the school’s musical history in their own unique way.

As part of this final musical season, the production features a giant portrait of Jimmy Winter, the lead male character, played by Daniel Wahl, which is prominently displayed in the set of Nice Work If You Can Get It.

In honor of the Wahl family’s enduring involvement in the school’s theater, the department created a special “Wall of Wahls” to showcase the senior year performances of each of the Wahl children.

The “Wall of Wahls” includes a celebration of each family member’s contribution, spanning from 2006 to 2025:

  • Elizabeth Wahl – Damn Yankees, 2006
  • Mark Wahl – The Mikado, 2009
  • Rebekah Wahl – Just So, 2012
  • Ben Wahl – Meet Me In St. Louis, 2013
  • Sarah Wahl – The Little Mermaid, 2016
  • Mary Ann Wahl – Shrek, 2018
  • Rachel Wahl – Bye Bye Birdie, 2022
  • Daniel Wahl – Nice Work If You Can Get It, 2025

This “Wall of Wahls” serves as a tribute to the lasting legacy of one family’s dedication to the arts, their passion for performance, and their unwavering support of the Indian Lake High School Music Department.

As the curtain falls on Daniel Wahl’s final performance, it also marks the end of an era, one that will surely be remembered for years to come.
