The Indian Lake Board of Education received updates on student health services, mental health support, and attendance during its October regular meeting Monday night.

Jara Everhart, from Community Health and Wellness Partners, presented information about the school-based health center at Indian Lake Middle School.

The center serves participating Indian Lake students, school staff and the public.

Everhart said the center provides a variety of medical services, with mental health care becoming an increasing need.

“Overall, we are focused on the success of these students, catching any barriers soon,” Everhart said. “If they have health challenges or mental health needs, the sooner we catch those needs, the sooner we can wrap around them in care and truly support these students.”

Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood also presented the annual update on the district’s Student Wellness and Success and Disadvantaged Pupil Impact Fund Plan.

The detailed plan, available on the district’s website, outlines support for students beyond their regular academic needs.

Underwood said the district develops the plan in collaboration with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center and the local Mental Health Board.

The board also received its first quarterly attendance report, which is now required by the state.

In other business, board members accepted a $36,936 Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Safety Intervention Grant.

The funding will be used to purchase custodial equipment intended to improve safety and efficiency.

The board also accepted several grants from Mary Rutan Health to support additional student wellness initiatives.

The next Indian Lake Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 23, at 5:30 p.m.
