Friday morning, nearly 200 people from the Indian Lake community came together for a breakfast event at Indian Lake High School to honor first responders and residents on the first anniversary of the tornado that struck the region.

The event, themed “Stronger Than The Storm,” highlighted the resilience and strength that have defined the community’s recovery over the past year.

On March 14, 2024, the tornado caused significant damage to the Indian Lake area, leaving a trail of destruction but also highlighting the bravery and dedication of first responders.

Firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and other emergency personnel were recognized for their tireless work during the immediate aftermath of the storm and their continued efforts to help rebuild the community.

Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds honored his staff and thanked them for all their hard work.

He passed along a letter of commendation to his dispatch staff and a letter of recognition from Senator Bernie Moreno to his entire staff.

As the morning unfolded, it became clear that while the tornado left behind challenges, it also brought out the best in the community.

Indian Lake Schools Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood reflected:

Students Jacob Freyhof, Caylie Short, Carter Barnett, and Blake McVety gave moving accounts of how the storm affected them and the community.
