A Lakeview man is facing impaired driving charges after a rollover crash Friday night that knocked down a utility pole.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were called around 9:45 p.m. to North State Route 235 and Cooper Avenue on reports of a crash involving a possibly intoxicated driver.

Washington Township Police officers arrived first and initially reported no injuries.

Medics were later requested when the driver, identified as 22-year-old Cody Phillips, complained of pain.

Authorities found Phillips’ 2016 Lexus SUV overturned along the west side of the road.

The vehicle had struck and broken a utility pole, leaving power lines draped over the SUV.

Crews from Indian Lake EMS evaluated Phillips at the scene, but he declined further treatment.

A witness told deputies he saw the SUV come through the curve at State Routes 235 and 366, hit the berm, lose control, slide sideways into a utility pole, and roll several times.

Phillips told deputies he swerved to avoid a deer.

He also said he had consumed one or two beers about two hours before the crash.

Deputies reported Phillips showed several signs of intoxication, and due to reported knee pain, only limited field sobriety testing was conducted.

Phillips was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail.

At the jail, Phillips refused a breath test and was issued an administrative license suspension.

He was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and failure to control.

Phillips was later released to a sober driver.
