During halftime of Friday night’s football game, Indian Lake Athletic Director Jeff Courter presented Brenda Jackson and her late husband, Sam Jackson, with the Ohio High School Athletic Association Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity.
For 25 years, Sam and Brenda worked the ticket booths at Indian Lake athletic events, warmly welcoming Laker fans and building connections with generations of student-athletes and their families.
Brenda is currently serving her 26th year, carrying on the tradition even after the loss of Sam earlier this spring following a courageous battle with cancer.
Sam Jackson, a 1978 ILHS graduate and lifelong Laker, was also a respected member of the local agriculture community.
He would have celebrated his 65th birthday last week.
Brenda was joined on the field by the couple’s children and grandchildren as the award was presented.
The OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award is given annually to an individual or individuals who embody sportsmanship, serve as positive role models, and reflect high standards of ethics and integrity in their support of interscholastic athletics and the youth of their school community.
