Nerio Jimenez, 55, of Bellefontaine, was arrested early Sunday morning after police saw him driving on the wrong side of the road and failing to stop at a stop sign.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, an officer was traveling east on West Columbus Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. when he observed a dark Nissan Versa turn onto West Columbus Avenue from Troy Road while traveling in the opposing lane of traffic.
The officer followed the vehicle and saw it run the stop sign at Everett Street while continuing in the wrong lane.
A traffic stop was initiated before the vehicle reached Plumvalley Street.
Officers reported noticing several signs of impairment,
Two unopened bottles of Corona beer were also seen on the back seat.
Because Jimenez did not speak English, officers used a translation application to communicate with him.
He denied consuming alcohol but agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.
Jimenez was placed under arrest and transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department for a breath test.
According to the report, Jimenez consented to the test, which showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.226—nearly three times Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08.
He was issued a citation and later released to a sober driver.
