JSP Joint Fire District in Champaign County has been awarded $184,800 through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

The funding will support the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment, which provides firefighters with respiratory protection while working in smoke-filled and other hazardous environments.

The equipment is an essential part of firefighter protective gear, helping personnel breathe safely while responding to fires and other emergencies.

Nationwide First Responder Grants announced the award, congratulating Fire Chief Vance McCulla and the entire JSP Joint Fire District team.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program provides funding to help fire departments and emergency response organizations obtain equipment, training and other resources to improve firefighter safety and emergency response capabilities.
