Tuesday afternoon in a Logan County Courtroom, 29-year-old Emily Olvera, of North Lewisburg, was sentenced to the maximum of 5 years in prison on charges of aggravated vehicular assault.
Also, Judge Braig added 6 months to be served concurrently for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI).
April 8th, Olvera, pled guilty to charges of OVI and aggravated vehicular assault in connection with a crash that happened on November 2, 2024.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, just after 1:30 AM that Saturday, Olvera was driving eastbound in the westbound fast lane of US 33 when she collided head-on with a vehicle operated by then 18-year-old Chloe Gross of Huntsville.
Olvera’s vehicle traveled off the roadway, overturned, and caught fire, while Gross’s vehicle came to rest near the exit ramp of State Route 540.
Gross had to be extracted from her vehicle by mechanical means.
She continues to battle many health complications from the accident.
On Tuesday, the courtroom was filled with many emotions as the family spoke to Olvera and the court.

Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart commented on the sentencing of Olvera:
Judge Braig credited Olvera for 9 days served, and added that she will not be able to possess a driver’s license for 3 years after she is released from prison.
She will also serve 18 months to 3 years on post-release control after her release from prison.
