Thursday, Judge Kevin P. Braig of the Logan County Court of Common Pleas sentenced Chase Whiting to 13 to 16.5 years in prison on three drug-related felony convictions.
As part of a plea agreement, Whiting pleaded guilty to:
- Possession of cocaine, a felony of the first degree,
- Illegal manufacture of drugs, a felony of the second degree, and
- Engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a felony of the first degree.
Under Ohio law, mandatory prison terms were required for all three offenses.
In particular, the conviction for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 11 years.
The sentence was jointly recommended by Logan County Assistant Prosecutor Nathan Yohey and Whiting’s defense attorney, Luke Milligan of Columbus, and Judge Braig adopted the recommendation.
In a related case, Judge Braig sentenced Megan Gross to 172 days in the Logan County Jail for a probation violation on an aggravated possession of drugs conviction, a fifth-degree felony.
Gross violated her probation by failing to successfully complete programming in the Logan County Adult Recovery Court.
