According to a press release from Judge Kevin P. Braig, a Logan County jury has convicted Sylvia Inskeep of complicity to one count of burglary, three counts of grand theft of firearms, two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, and four one-year firearm specifications.
The offenses are felonies of the second and third degree.
The jury found that on September 1, 2024, and October 29, 2024, Inskeep aided and abetted Edward Morgan in possessing methamphetamine.
Evidence presented by the State of Ohio included surveillance video from McDonald’s on South Main Street in Bellefontaine, which showed Inskeep and Morgan together on the afternoon of the burglary.
The video also appeared to show the pair using drugs in the parking lot.
Investigators determined Morgan’s DNA was found on a cigarette butt and water bottle at the scene of a burglary on County Road 1, where he stole three firearms while the homeowner was away on the evening of September 1.
Later that night, Morgan abandoned Inskeep’s red Chevrolet Cruze behind Bellefontaine Elementary School after Bellefontaine Police Officer Kollin Stollar spotted the vehicle operating without headlights.
When Officer Stollar approached, someone fled into the nearby woods.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the three stolen firearms in a bag in the trunk.
While law enforcement investigated the abandoned vehicle, Inskeep arrived at the scene with her husband and identified the vehicle as theirs.
During the investigation, she provided a cell phone number to police.
The State later presented evidence that Inskeep used that phone to text Morgan, warning him about the investigation and attempting to arrange to pick him up.
On August 5, 2025, Judge Braig sentenced Edward Morgan to 15 to 18 years in prison for his role in the offenses, including aggravated possession of drugs, burglary, and another unrelated burglary.
Following the verdict against Inskeep, Judge Braig revoked her bond and ordered her held in the Logan County Jail pending sentencing.
A pre-sentence investigation was ordered, and her sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2025, at 11 a.m.
The second-degree felony complicity to aggravated possession of drugs and the firearm specifications carry mandatory prison time.
Logan County Assistant Prosecutors Nathan Yohey and Nick Williams represented the State.
The Bellefontaine Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
Defense counsel Addie King of Urbana represented Inskeep.
