A juvenile sustained minor injuries Tuesday evening after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing at Monument Square in downtown Urbana.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:23 p.m. when Urbana Police and Fire Division responded to the intersection of Scioto Street and Monument Square for a reported injury crash.

According to authorities, two juveniles were crossing Scioto Street from south to north. One of them, a female riding a bicycle, was hit by a 2009 Dodge Ram traveling westbound on Scioto.

Investigators determined that the young cyclist had activated the crosswalk’s caution flashers before entering the intersection. Despite the warning signals, the westbound vehicle struck her as she crossed.

The juvenile sustained minor scrapes from the collision and fall. She was not transported by emergency services but was instead picked up from the scene by a parent and taken home.

Police cited the driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as Ann Louise Nichelson Buchwalter Geres of Urbana, for failure to yield.

The incident remains under investigation by Urbana Police.
