According to reports received today, the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to a serious incident involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck on Thursday evening.
Officers were called just after 5:00 PM to the 600 block of West Sandusky Avenue after receiving reports of a pedestrian lying in the roadway after being hit by a semi.
When officers arrived, they found a young female lying in the roadway approximately 10 feet in front of the truck.
The pedestrian, later identified as a 14-year-old girl from Bellefontaine, was conscious and able to respond to officers.
Bellefontaine Medics arrived shortly after and began providing medical care at the scene.
According to police, the semi-truck was traveling westbound on West Sandusky Avenue at approximately 35 miles per hour.
The driver reported seeing the juvenile on the sidewalk before she stepped into the roadway.
The driver attempted to brake but was unable to avoid the collision.
No citations were issued.
The girl was initially transported to Mary Rutan Hospital and was later transferred by helicopter to another medical facility for further treatment.
Her current condition is unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing.
