A stolen vehicle pursuit early Friday morning ended with the arrest of three juveniles following a multi-agency response across several roadways in west-central Ohio.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, just after 3:00 a.m. on January 2, a trooper from the Marysville Post was on routine patrol on U.S. 33 near mile marker 18 in Jerome Township, Union County, when a marked lane violation was observed involving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.
When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the Hyundai failed to comply and fled, prompting a motor vehicle pursuit.
The vehicle continued westbound on U.S. 33 before exiting onto U.S. 36 and then traveling onto State Route 4.
The pursuit was briefly terminated for safety reasons, but law enforcement later re-engaged the vehicle.
After multiple stop-stick deployments, the Hyundai became disabled just before 3:30 a.m. on State Route 161 near Indian Springs Golf Club in Mechanicsburg.
Three occupants exited the disabled vehicle and fled on foot.
The Hyundai was later confirmed to be a stolen vehicle out of Upper Arlington.
With assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation Section and local law enforcement agencies, all three individuals were located in the area just before 4:00 a.m.
One individual was initially taken into custody, while the remaining two attempted to flee again before being apprehended shortly thereafter.
The driver was identified as Jayden Hays, 17, of Columbus.
The passengers were identified as Carter Collins-Neill, 14, of Marysville, and Trinity Sanders, 15, of Columbus.
Hays was charged with Failure to Comply with the Order or Signal of a Police Officer and Theft Without Consent, both felony offenses, along with Obstructing Official Business, a misdemeanor.
Collins-Neill and Sanders were each charged with Obstructing Official Business, a misdemeanor.
All three juveniles were transported to and incarcerated at the Union County Juvenile Detention Center.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Marysville Post.
