Bellefontaine Police’s K9 Pyro helped officers find crack cocaine during a late-night traffic stop on Saturday, leading to the arrest of a local woman.
Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, officers stopped a vehicle after it made an improper turn onto South Main Street, nearly crossed the center line, and later drifted in its lane on West Chillicothe Avenue.
The driver, identified as Ariel Hoisington, 30, of Bellefontaine, showed several signs of drug use.
She admitted to past drug use but claimed she had been clean for about a year.
Officer Hostetler and K9 Pyro were then called to the scene.
Pyro alerted to the vehicle, and a search turned up a cigarette pack in the center console containing a bag with a white, rock-like substance.
Another small piece was found on the driver’s seat.
Both tested positive for crack cocaine.
Hoisington later admitted the drugs were hers and said she had smoked crack about an hour earlier.
She was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail when she submitted a urine sample, which was sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for further testing.
Hoisington faces charges of possession of crack cocaine and operating a vehicle while impaired.
More charges could follow pending lab results.
