A Hardin County man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of prescription pills in his possession.

Wednesday afternoon Bellefontaine Police noticed a dark-colored Hyundai not signaling when turning onto Oakland Square and stopping past the stop line on West Brown Avenue. Officers pulled the car over on North Main Street and spoke with the female driver and her male passenger.

During the stop, the officer saw that the male passenger, later identified as Jonathan Harber, 45, of Kenton, was not wearing his seatbelt. He also noticed a black bookbag on the passenger floorboard. While checking the driver’s information, the officer learned that Harber had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and a history of drug problems.

Backup officer Dixon arrived, and while the female driver was given a warning and allowed to leave, Harber was asked to get out of the car. He was uncooperative at first but eventually exited. As he did, he tried to take several items, including the bookbag, from the car.

The officer then used K9 Pyro, to sniff the vehicle. The dog alerted to the smell of drugs, and a search of the car found 40 Oxycodone pills inside the book bag.

Harber was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and taken to the Logan County Jail.

The female driver was released with a warning.
