Saturday morning was extra special for 8-year-old Xiomara.
Instead of the usual weekend routine, she was picked up by a law enforcement officer in his cruiser and headed straight to the Bellefontaine Police Department.
There, she joined 11 other students, 25 officers, and 18 cruisers for a holiday adventure like no other.
The convoy rolled down Main Street in Bellefontaine with lights flashing and sirens on, heading to the Bellefontaine Wal-Mart.
Once there, the children were greeted by cheerful Christmas characters and store staff.
Paired up with officers and deputies, the kids grabbed carts and shopped for loved ones on their holiday lists.
Some picked out gifts for themselves, while others focused on family members.
When the kids hit their budget, they headed to checkout, where Wal-Mart employees—and even a few officers—helped wrap the gifts.
The total amount spent during the event was $6,169.66.
The children came from all across Logan County and were nominated through their school districts.
Each child was selected because they might not otherwise have had a special Christmas.
The event was the 2025 “Shop with a Cop,” made possible by the Fraternal Order of Police Hi-Point Lodge 60 and generous donations from the community, showing the power of neighbors and local heroes coming together to make the holidays brighter.
For these kids, it wasn’t just about the presents—it was the thrill of riding in a police cruiser, the fun of lights and sirens, and the warmth of knowing the community cares.
For me, I got to be the paparazzi, capturing moments as kids chatted with officers, asking if an item was perfect for mom or brother, and hearing suggestions—even if it came with a gentle “no.”
It filled my cup more than anyone will know.
Right before shopping, I spoke with event coordinator Officer Bryce Goodrich, from the Bellefontine PD, and the FOP:
At the end of the day, Xiomara said:
Before leaving, everyone paused for a quick photo, shared a few hugs and high fives, and exchanged a whole lot of holiday wishes. It was a day full of smiles, excitement, and community spirit, giving local youth a holiday memory they won’t soon forget.
