A quick-thinking citizen and a helpful mechanic helped rescue a kitten from a dangerous situation this week in Urbana.

While a Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputy was inside a local restaurant preparing to order lunch, he was approached by a citizen, who reported that a kitten was trapped in the engine compartment of her vehicle.

The deputy went outside and discovered a grey and white kitten wedged between the radiator and front bumper.

Unable to safely remove the animal without tools, he contacted a local mechanic for help, concerned about the excessive heat inside the engine.

Mechanics responded quickly and were able to safely remove the kitten.

One of the mechanics took the cat into his care to make sure it received proper care.

Thanks to the swift action of everyone involved, the kitten is now safe and out of harm’s way.
