A little friendly competition is heating up in the area this week, thanks to the Indian Lake Lakers football team and a playful wager between local mayors.

Mayor Elaine Fagan-Moore of Lakeview has reached out to Mayor Jay Branson of Liberty Center with a fun t-shirt exchange tied to this Friday’s football matchup.

If the Lakers secure a win, Mayor Branson has agreed to wear an Indian Lake Lakers shirt at his next city council meeting.

“Of course in all fairness IF, and I do mean IF…..the LAKERS don’t come through, I will wear his team’s shirt to my council meeting slated for December 1, 2025.” Mayor Fagan-Moore said on socail media.

The idea was shared with Superintendent Rob Underwood and Athletic Director Jeff Courter, both of whom enthusiastically supported the plan.

Mayor Fagan-Moore praised the Lakers for their hard work and encouraged the community to show their support:

“Go, LAKERS make us proud! Get fired up and go big for the WIN! I know you can do this!!”

The Indian Lake Lakers will travel about 40 minutes to Lima Spartan Stadium to face Liberty Center (13-0) on Friday, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.

The winner of that matchup will advance to the state championship game against the winner of Cardinal Mooney vs. Wheelersburg on Saturday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m.

The friendly wager between the mayors adds extra excitement to an already big week for the Lakers as they aim for a shot at the state title.
