The Lakeview Village Council met in regular session Monday night and witnessed Mayor Elaine Fagan-Moore accept a recommendation from Fire Chief Joe Ferryman to appoint longtime department member Terry Kuhlman as the second department captain. Kuhlman, formerly of Ottawa, Ohio, has been in the fire service for over 50 years.
Chief Ferryman said Kuhlman is a font of firefighting knowledge and will make an even greater impact in his new role.
Kuhlman reflects on this new milestone:
Washington Township Police Officer Travis Davidson told the council that their office has handled a few fraud calls recently. He said the victims are mostly older residents, and the scam usually involves victims buying gift cards and sending them to the scammer in hopes of receiving cash. Officer Davidson said, ‘If it sounds too good to be true, it is.’
Zoning Officer Gary Bias said his office handled 35 calls, including issuing several permits as well as a request for a variance to construct a new storage facility. Bias said there will be a meeting to address the request on October 19, 2026, at 5:30 PM.
Fire Chief Ferryman updated the council on the status of the new engine from Pennsylvania. As previously reported on peakofohio.com, Chief Ferryman has been speaking with a Pennsylvania borough about purchasing the engine from their department. He said the truck failed a recent vacuum test, but the department is willing to purchase the needed repair part and send it with the truck.
Village Solicitor Daniel Bey asked if there has been any paperwork detailing the purchase completed. Ferryman said there had not. Bey recommended that an agreement be drawn up listing information about the purchase. Ferryman said he would wait to hear back from Bey about the form before agreeing to make the purchase.
In her report, Mayor Fagan-Moore informed the council that no applications had been submitted for the open council member position. Solicitor Bey said that since the position remains unfilled, the mayor will need to appoint someone to fill the unexpired term of the former council member.
The next Lakeview Village council meeting will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Lakeview Fire Station.
