A 54-year-old Lakeview man was involved in two separate incidents with law enforcement this week — one for operating a vehicle under the influence and another for domestic violence threats.
On Sunday, around 8:30 p.m., deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of reckless driving on State Route 235 near Lakeview.
A caller reported that a gray Acura was swerving across the road, even going left of center several times.
Deputies located the car and pulled it over at Big Bear Campground.
The driver, John Sheeley, showed several signs of intoxication.
Though he initially denied drinking, Sheeley later admitted to “casually” drinking vodka throughout the day.
He refused to take field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and prior refusal with a previous OVI conviction.
Sheeley was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused a breath test and was later released to a sober driver.
Then on Tuesday, deputies were called to Sheeley’s address around 4:15 p.m., after a victim reported concern for his well-being due to excessive drinking.
They told deputies that Sheeley had been drinking all day and had become increasingly aggressive.
According to the report, Sheeley was intoxicated when deputies arrived but denied drinking.
The victim told deputies they are afraid of Sheeley when he drinks and said he had threatened them earlier in the day.
They also stated that Sheeley is often verbally and physically threatening when intoxicated.
Sheeley was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail, but jail staff refused to admit him due to concerns about alcohol withdrawal.
He was issued a summons for domestic violence and released to a sober person.
