A Lakeview man was issued a summons for aggravated menacing after deputies say he confronted a woman who was canvassing the neighborhood and struck her vehicle window.
The incident happened Thursday just before 1:00 PM on Chinook Path in Lakeview.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report, Shamira Humphries, 46, of Lauderhill, Florida, told deputies she and her husband were canvassing the area separately for John Husted when she was approached by 72-year-old Jeffrey Mox.
Humphries said Mox asked if she was in the military and then became aggressive, questioning why she was in the neighborhood.
She told deputies Mox said she was “not from around here” and that she “could get shot.”
Humphries began recording the encounter.
The report says Mox approached her Jeep and struck the driver’s side window with his hand.
Humphries then drove away and told deputies she was afraid Mox would hurt her.
Her husband told deputies he was on the phone with her during the encounter and heard Mox make statements about her being shot.
Deputies later spoke with Mox at his residence.
Mox said he was concerned because he had seen the Jeep near his daughter’s home and believed the vehicle could be connected to suspicious activity.
Mox acknowledged telling Humphries that she could get shot and acknowledged hitting her driver’s side window.
He denied threatening to shoot her.
Mox was issued a summons for aggravated menacing.
Deputies also advised him that additional charges could be considered for disorderly conduct.
The sheriff’s office said Mox was reminded that Humphries had every right to be on the public roadway and that concerns about suspicious activity should be reported to law enforcement.
