At Monday’s regular council meeting in Lakeview, in front of a packed room, Mayor Elaine Fagan-Moore announced that the residents who had filed a lawsuit to remove her from office had dropped the case.

Mayor Fagan-Moore described the lawsuit as a politically motivated stunt. She claimed the petition was part of an effort to harm her reputation through exaggeration and gossip, especially on social media.

For the first time, she spoke out to the village:

The petitioners filed to drop the lawsuit last Wednesday, November 27th,  in the Logan County Common Pleas Court. The petition to remove the mayor had been signed by 143 residents who accused the mayor of violating Ohio law, saying she abused her power and neglected her duties. Attorney Tim Steinhelfer, who represented the petitioners, says that a statement may be forthcoming from the petitioners but there is nothing to release at this time.

In other action, the village council voted to remove law enforcement coverage within the village by The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and replace it with a contract with the Washington Township Police Department.

The exact details will be discussed at the next council meeting which will take place Monday December 16th at 6 PM.
