Lakeview veteran and his wife thankful for new roof

After Lakeview residents Bill and Marilyn Klinker’s home was damaged during the March 2024 tornado, they were overjoyed when a contractor arrived at their home and agreed to repair their windows and roof. After signing over the insurance check to the man, he went to work replacing the windows.

Then one day, he was gone.

The Klinkers eventually found out that the man had been indicted in Florida for fraud and was in jail.

They resigned themselves to living with it and began saving, making the repairs to the roof when they could.

All that changed on Veterans’ Day this year when they were notified that they were the winners of a new roof courtesy of Lee’s Roofing of Bellefontaine.

As previously reported on peakofohio.com, Lee’s Roofing took nominations for its fifth annual Logan County Veteran Roof Giveaway. The program provides a new roof to a local veteran at no cost. Travis Predmore, Project Manager for Lee’s Roofing, said the company is happy to provide this service to local veterans who served our country:

Klinker, a Navy veteran and cancer survivor, said he was surprised when he was notified that he had been selected:

He served from 1974 to 1977 on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington, based in Pensacola, Florida. Their mission was to train pilots for takeoffs and landings while at sea. After separating from the Navy, he worked as a Budweiser delivery driver and retired in 2018.

The Klinkers moved to Lakeview in 1983 and are glad to call Lakeview home. Marilyn said they are planning to have Thanksgiving at their home for the first time in years.
