The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD) held its monthly meeting on Thursday of last week to share updates on programs, services, and funding.
Business Director Kari Eckard reviewed the proposed 2026 budget, and the board approved the August 2025 financial report.
Funds in the Star Ohio Account are being set aside for playground improvements, services, and DODD waiver match expenses.
Superintendent Lisa Oldiges shared that the West Liberty Lions Club will host a ribbon-cutting for a new restroom at Lions Club Park on Tuesday, October 14, at 5:30 p.m.
LCBDD helped fund the project and provided a Universal Changing Table, the first restroom in Logan County with this feature.
The LCBDD Foundation also plans to offer a $1,500 scholarship to graduating seniors pursuing social work, special education, behavioral science, psychology, or human services, starting with the Class of 2026.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
LCBDD is promoting awareness through stories, digital billboards, and radio spots on WPKO.
The month will end with a Sensory Friendly Movie on Saturday, October 25, at 9:30 a.m. at Bellefontaine Cinema.
The board is also updating HVAC units at the Discovery Center, and a recent fire inspection reported no issues.
LCBDD recently received a $35,000 Keep Families Together Grant to help children and families at risk of out-of-home placement.
The grant will provide flexible, community-based support to help families stay together safely.
Enrollment at LCBDD is at an all-time high, with 704 people receiving services.
Other updates include a Community Blood Drive on October 23, a free developmental screening for children birth through Pre-K on October 16, and recent activities for Early Intervention families, including a day at Marmon Valley Farms.
The preschool program has 126 students this year, with new classroom support including monthly pizza from Domino’s, sensory balls from the West Liberty Lions Club, and a therapy dog visiting one classroom on a trial basis.
The board also approved contracts with Mark Rodney Productions, the Midwest Educational Service Center, and the Title XX Grant Agreement.
The 2026 budget and salary schedule for 2026–2028 were approved.
LCBDD board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at 1973 State Route 47 West, Bellefontaine.
The next meeting will be on November 6, 2025.
