The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD) convened on October 7, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. for its monthly meeting, highlighting significant updates and welcoming a new board member.
Business Director Mrs. Frail kicked off the session with a review of the cost report process and the proposed 2025 budget, a vital aspect of the board’s annual training. The cost report outlines the financial activities of the county’s developmental disabilities services, ensuring compliance with federal Medicaid reporting requirements.
A key moment in the meeting was the swearing-in of Ms. Kelly Paxton, who replaces outgoing board member Ms. Lindsay Krieger.
In her financial report, Mrs. Frail noted the receipt of property taxes for August 2024, contributing positively to the board’s financial outlook. Superintendent Ms. Oldiges presented updated policies and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center regarding the Early Childhood Education Grant, both of which received board approval. The 2025 budget was also approved and will be presented to county commissioners later this month.
A report on waiver costs revealed that Logan County ranks as the 6th lowest in the state for Individual Options Waiver costs and the 13th lowest for Level One Waiver costs, demonstrating the board’s commitment to providing essential services efficiently.
In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Ms. Oldiges announced a Sensory Friendly Movie event scheduled for October 26 at 9:30 a.m. The first 150 attendees will enjoy free admission, along with complimentary beverages and popcorn.
Mr. Moyer, SSA Director, shared highlights from Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Appreciation Week, where DSPs received local honey as a thank-you gift and special ID badges for event access while on duty. He also mentioned an application for a grant from United Way to further support board services.
The Early Intervention Department will host a Developmental Screening on October 17 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Discovery Center, aimed at children from birth to pre-K not currently enrolled in Early Intervention or on an IEP. Families can sign up by calling 937-292-3065.
Additionally, Discovery Center preschoolers enjoyed a Fire Safety Day with the Bellefontaine Fire Department, where they explored fire trucks and equipment on September 24th.
