A Lewistown man is facing drug charges after deputies pulled him over Friday night for running a stop sign.

Just before 8 p.m., Logan County Sheriff’s deputies saw a tan Toyota Camry fail to stop at the intersection of County Road 35 and State Route 47.

After pulling the vehicle over, deputies discovered it was registered to someone with a known history of drug activity.

The driver, 55-year-old Steven Huffman, appeared extremely nervous and showed signs of drug use, according to the sheriff’s office.

A K-9 unit from the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to the scene.

The dog, Pyro, alerted deputies to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.

During a search, deputies found a glass pipe with residue, small white chunks on the driver’s seat, a baggie with residue on the passenger seat, and a black magnetic box hidden under the driver’s seat containing a larger chunk of suspected crack cocaine.

The substance tested positive for cocaine and weighed about 4.25 grams.

Huffman told deputies he had only been using the vehicle for around four hours and denied knowing anything about the drugs.

He was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail.

He faces charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also given a written warning for the stop sign violation.
