According to Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies, a Lima man was taken into custody Saturday night after he violated a protection order and was caught driving under suspension.

Around 8:00 p.m., deputies spotted a gold 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche with heavily tinted windows driving north on Ash Avenue near Eagle Path in Lakeview.

The dark tint made it impossible to see who was behind the wheel, prompting a traffic stop for the equipment violation.

A gray Honda Accord, registered to April Tuttle, was seen following the Avalanche.

After stopping the truck in the parking lot of Winner’s Market, deputies identified the driver as 41-year-old Derrick Williams of Lima.

Deputies say Williams was driving on a suspended license due to a prior OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) refusal and was the subject of a protection order involving Tuttle.

Williams was detained at the scene.

While the officer was speaking with him, Tuttle’s sister walked up and said she and Williams had been together, but claimed there was no contact between Williams and Tuttle.

Officers noted that about 30 to 45 minutes before the stop, Tuttle’s car had been seen parked outside a home on Rosewood Avenue, alongside the same gold Avalanche.

The vehicles’ close proximity raised concerns about possible contact between the two.

Tuttle told officers she was aware of the protection order and said she was only giving her sister a ride to the store.

Both she and Williams denied having any contact that day.

Williams was arrested without incident and booked into the Logan County Jail.

He faces charges for violating a protection order and driving under suspension.

He was also issued a citation for the license offense and given a warning for the tinted windows.
