The Lion’s Club of Urbana met Wednesday and learned about Sunshine Book Nook, a brand-new independent bookstore owned by longtime Urbana resident Don Flowers.
Flowers told club members that while bookselling isn’t the most profitable business today, he saw a clear need for a local bookstore—and decided to fill that gap.
He shared that the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
Customers purchased books at a surprising rate during the store’s first week, showing that Urbana residents are excited to support the new venture.
Flowers talks more about the store:
Looking ahead, Flowers plans to host local author events and is committed to stocking a wide variety of books for the entire community.
He emphasized that providing a diversity of ideas and viewpoints is a priority, even if it risks offending some readers.
Sunshine Book Nook is now open at 111 North Main Street in Urbana, welcoming readers of all ages.
