Approximately 50 area residents attended the ribbon-cutting for the restroom facilities at Lions Park on Tuesday evening. Little did many of those gathered know, but the new restroom boasts a feature that is rare for Logan County.

Krista Oldiges, Superintendent of the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities, said that the facility in West Liberty is the only restroom facility equipped for adults with special needs between Dayton and the new restroom on US 33 in Marysville. Oldiges talks about the unique opportunity this presented:

In her remarks, Lions Club President Judy Legge thanked the countless corporations and private donors who made this facility a reality. “We did it!” Legge proclaimed at the beginning of her remarks. She thanked the many minds and hands that made it possible, including Lions Club member Wayne Yoder, who acted as General Contractor for the project.

President Legge talks about the special nature of the village coming together:

The project was not all smooth sailing, however. As previously reported on peakofohio.com, during the planning process last October, it was discovered that to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, the floor of the restroom would need to be built so that it is out of the flood plan from the nearby creek. The regulations would also require a concrete ramp to be built along with the railing.

To make the facility ADA-compliant, the designers added a ramp with a railing to the north side of the structure.
