Local cheese manufacturer, Blue Jacket Dairy, was awarded a blue ribbon at the Ohio State Fair Cheese Competition on Thursday.
Blue Jacket Dairy competed in the open class for “Other Mammal Milk”.
Their Arrowhead Chevre took home first place. It’s described as spreadable goat cheese with savory herbs. The inspiration for the cheese comes from a family recipe for vegetable pie.
The Arrowhead name came from a local customer who entered a Name the Cheese contest in 2008.
“Today is an exciting day for Logan County residents as it highlights the fact that there are great things happening in our wonderful county. We are honored by the award and appreciate all our customers that regularly use our cheese, ” said cheese maker Angel King.
Blue Jacket Dairy is a family-owned business which started in 2008 by Jim and Angel King.
They are located just outside of Bellefontaine on County Road 11.
Their cheese is distributed throughout Ohio to restaurants, specialty and grocery stores, cheese shops, and farmers markets.
